Thank you so much for this post!! I found it incredibly helpful in planning my itinerary to do the O trek in March.

Quick question, I’m planning to do what you did and go straight from Dickson to Paso (skipping Los Perros) and then from Paso to Paine Grande (skipping Grey). However, I’m having a lot of trouble with Vertice Patagonia’s online reservation system. It seems like they force you to pay for all for campsites that they manage (Dickson, Los Perros, Grey and Paine Grande), even if you’re not planning to spend the night there. I’ve e-mailed them to try to figure it out, but I was wondering how you navigated that.

Thanks!

Lexie

We are planning to do either W or O hike at the end of March or Mid April, Can you please tell me which campsites do i need to book for the W trail and which additional ones for the O trail. We dont have tents, and we feel more comfortable with prearranged campsites. i would greatly appreciate the information. Also this article that you have written is amazing and full of information for starters like myself.
Sincerely
Mayur

I guess I’m an experienced backpacker and hiker (2 years backpacking and 5 weeks self guided trekking in Nepal), but the time and effort you’ve put into this to save other backpackers a lot of time and effort is greatly appreciated. Thank you! It’s like copying someone’s homework, you’ve done all the work 😉

You’re welcome!

Yup, we stayed at the Paso campsite with our tent. And you can definitely skip Paso if you’re going from Perros to Grey. That’s what most people do because Perros is a small rustic campsite and is hard to book.

One thing to remember is that you have to stay at either Dickson or Perros on your way up towards Paso, and many people stay at both. The reason for this is that it would be far too long of a day if you skipped both those places.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for your in-depth post abut hiking Torres Del Paine.

For Paso, I’m assuming you camped at Paso Del Conaf.

Can I stay at Camp Los Perros instead, skip Paso then head over to Grey?

I’m trying to find lodging where there’s at least a ready-made tent or bed so I don’t to carry a tent.

Thanks.
