Hi Carol, thanks for reaching out. I tend not to give recommendations like this because every hiker is very different in their abilities and preferences. When I did this hike solo, I did the full thing over two days and one night. That said, I like to hike a lot, I’m a pretty strong/experienced hiker, and I keep my pack weight down. I think this trip is very doable as a one night trip for strong/experienced hikers who are ready for the mileage. Just make sure to train ahead of time, be ready for the weight, elevation, and mileage, and try to keep your pack weight down. Have an awesome trip!

I was originally thinking of staying at Swamp Canyon the first night but am wondering if the Swamp canyon Right Fork site is good? It seems to make the most sense as I might also be able to drop water the day before if needed. You’re the first blog that I’ve seen that says 1 night is ok, most seem to say 2 nights so I was wondering what i was missing in terms of exceptional difficulty? I’m a pretty strong backpacker (Rockwall, Iceline, full Lake O’Hara Alpine Circuit in under 7 hrs). Without putting you totally on the spot, do you see any problem with a strong backpacker doing this is 1 night 2 days and which campsite would you recommend?

As far as I can tell there appears to only be one company offering a shuttle to Rainbow Point that wants $30/person which seems incredibly steep for a one way ride per person.
