Been traveling for 10 months in south america like this, working great, got 2l filtering right now.

A little tricky getting it not to fall down, and there is a technique with the seal too, but works like a charm!!

Leaking bags and breaking bags are sadly part of the norm for sawyer water filters. We recommend always bringing a backup bag. Also, we’ve experienced some leakage on some models like you described above. That’s a defect that you can return to Sawyer and hopefully get a replacement.

This isn’t a total game changer, but it makes for a challenge to not allow those drops of unfiltered water to drip down into the clean bag as one squeezes the water through the filter. Have you had a problem like this, or do I just have a lemon?

But you should warn that this is not a good choice for silty, muddy water.

Love the website. How can you tell when your Sawyer mini (or other system) needs to be replaced? Thanks

Hi Alina,

The folks at Saywer say "The Sawyer filter removes taste that comes from bacteria, dirt, and green matter. The Sawyer filter does NOT remove iron, sulfur, other chemicals, or simple compounds. Taste can be masked by using flavor additives like Gatorade or crystal light (filter needs to be cleaned immediately after using them)."

I haven’t had any issues with taste or color when using this filter, but I’m usually getting water from pretty clean sources. Hope that helps!

Does this filer get rid of bad smell/taste and color in the water?
Thanks

That really is a game changer since you don’t have to find a specialty store or order one.
