Thanks for the feedback Scott. We always appreciate other hikers perspectives on gear. I’m totally with you, the BRS is a great little cheap stove. We’ve been using ours a ton this year and no problems so far. Happy hiking!

The BRS is much, much cheaper and weighs less than half the Pocket Rocket.

In my opinion, the Pocket Rocket is now outmoded.

Thanks Mark! The BRS and Jetboil MightyMo are really two different beasts. The BRS is a very cheap and lightweight stove built to be as minimal as possible. It’ll really only work best with small pots to feed 1-2 people. It has no regulator, so it sputters sometimes and isn’t as good at simmering, but you can dial in the heat just fine for boiling water. Also, without a regulator it won’t work as well in cold temps. The MightyMo is a much more sturdy and reliable stove, though you’ll have to pay quite a bit more and carry 2 extra ounces (not too bad). The push button igniter on the MightyMo is a convenient touch, though not totally necessary. The MightyMo will also be more sturdy with larger pots, so it can work well for 1-4 people. In the end, both are good options, it just depends on what will work best for your needs. Hope that helps!

Just curious if you happened to test the Jetboil MightMo stove against the BRS Ultralight. It has a much higher price point and while the pros listed for the BRS stove definitely outweigh the cons, we were wondering if the two were close in any way. Huge Jetboil fan and the MSR PocketRocket 2 is incredibly reliable, just wondering how Jetboil stacks up against BRS. Switching gears, the review on Gaia’s GPS App was really helpful. We looked at that in the App Store for quite a while but your write up was spot on!

You can make it more difficult for the critters by being very fastidious with sealing an odor proof bag in the Ursack and even hanging the Ursack like a bear bag.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff, that’s good to know. I’ll admit that I’m pretty surprised by your comment though. We’ve been using our Ursack for about three years and thousands of miles without any issues, even though we often backpack in critter heavy areas. That said, it’s good to know about gear limitations and to hear when other hikers have problems like this. So thank you for sharing and bringing this to light. Much appreciated and happy hiking!

I had multiple holes chewed in mine by something, presumably a marmot. The Ursack website says: "While the AllWhite is critter resistant, it is less so than the AllMitey or the Ursack Minor which may be better suited for that task." I have not had a chance to try the AllMitey yet, since it is new.
