Good update Hunter, thanks. Yeah, getting close to 1 pound for a chair is quite a luxury when backpacking. I know that in the past there were a few other companies making similar products (I think Big Agnes was one), so you may shop around a bit before you buy the new heavier version. Sorry to not be more help.

Now they only sell the Trekker chair kit which weighs in at 10oz for the small size. The large (which I’ll need to fit my large XTherm) weighs 13oz compared to 9 for the large Compack. I called CD to inquire, and they weren’t able to provide a reason, and checked their roadmap and told me there are not any current plans to bring out a new lightweight model. Now I’m wondering whether I should bite the bullet and accept the extra 4oz, or look around for somebody who still has the old model in stock…

Works great! I have a very small little tarp that I put underneath it to protect my pad. It’s a very simple set up and works great. You gave a great and very accurate review of it.l

Thanks for the comment Jeff! Yeah, it’s a great little chair for backpacking. I’m really cautious about my pad as well, so I get what you’re saying. So far I feel very good about pad protection. I’m just careful about where I sit to avoid sharp rocks and sticks.

I was ready to get a Helinox ground chair this spring but now I may have to consider this. I love my Neoair XLite pad though and the thought of poking a hole in it gives me the shivers.

Hi Tim,

I haven’t been able to test that out, but I would imagine so. The fact that it has an open top and bottom sleeve will really help with that too. Also, most mattresses in the industry are a standard 20 inch width. Most "wide" mattresses are 25 inches. So those measurements line up well with the regular and large size of this chair. Hope that helps!

Dave
