Hi Cullen, that’s a good question. It depends on the weather, and I’m not an expert on Colorado weather, though I have done some backpacking there. For expert Colorado advice, I’d reach out to a hiker named PMags, and I’m sure you can find him through a simple google search. My advice would be that you probably want something a little warmer. Nighttime temps can drop very fast at the types of elevation you’ll encounter on a thru-hike of the CT and snow storms can happen at any time of year. Have a look through the "sleeping bags" section of my gear guide for a bunch of detailed information about sleeping bag temperature selection and my top picks for this year’s sleeping bags.

Yes, it will slightly dampen the noise of the pad, but it’s main function is for comfort against the skin. Read the "noise" section of my sleeping pads guide for more info. You’ll find that in the "Gear Guide" tab located in the top menu bar on every page of my site. Hope that helps.

Nope, this quilt packs down very small and should fit in your pack just fine. It’s 650 fill power down won’t be the most compressible down on the market (850-950 fp), but it’s still very good. Also, there’s not a ton of down fill in it due to it’s summer temperature rating. So you should be good to go. Enjoy!

I recently ordered this product online and haven’t been home to test it out yet. I also went with the large size, as I’m a bigger gentlemen (going on a long backpacking trip this summer to start working on that). The one concern I’ve had with buying the larger size, is its ability to fit in my pack. I know you mentioned that it packs down well, but would you say it takes up an unreasonable amount of space in your pack? Thanks in advance!

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the comment! I don’t think the sheet would fit a 3 inch 25 width pad, but I’d recommend contacting Therm-A-Rest directly to make sure. As far as temp rating goes, I’d air on the side of caution. This quilt has sewn-through baffles, meaning it won’t hold warmth as well as many 3-season quilts. I view it as mostly a warmer weather quilt. I would suspect that you would stay comfortable in 35 degree weather only if you bundled up with your down jacket and some extra clothing. That’s actually a pretty common weight saving technique for thru-hikers, but I don’t think the average hiker likes to have to do that. Anyway, I hope that helps!

I have been looking at this Corus HD for a while, mainly for the mattress pad connection. I also didn’t see/know anything on the universal sheet until reading this! Great thing to see! I would love to add the sheet to my pad to have an easy way to clean it. Do you think that the sheet will fit a 3 inch thick 25 inch wide pad or would the normal pad attachment set work better?

I also would love to get your feedback on the temp rating. I mainly camp in summer months in the Rockies and don’t get to pack much when the temps are below 32 degrees but during late spring and fall when they do get near 35 degrees (sometimes) and I can only afford to just have the one quilt. I normally am a heater all on my own but in just general would this hold true to the rating of 35 degrees? Or is 35 degrees with a bunch of extra layers like my jacket?
