Hey Joe, I’m about the same size and I just fit on a regular. You may want to test it out in a store, but I think it would work for you too.

I’m looking at picking one of these up. I’m 6’2 at 185lbs. Would the "regular" size be suitable for me? Thanks!

I talked to Cascade Designs about this on the phone the other day, they said they’re 2 years away from any new production models being released, and they didn’t know if the sizes would change. As to the size, look online for videos of folks cutting and resealing their neoairs, I have done this with both thermarest and S2S pads with no problems. I’m 5’8 and usually take 12 inches off a regular as I’m a side sleeper. Obviously this voids the warranty, and if you’re doing it for weight / pack size savings, be aware that the result is not a straight ratio to the length of the pad as the pad is significantly tapered at the end you’re cutting.

Regarding the size of the pads, Thermarest specs their measurements at the size of the pads when they’re deflated, obviously they shorten when inflated. I think this is probably an oversight rather than purposefully disingenuous.

Hey Marcus,

Just my 2cents. I have the Neo-Air XLite and took it on the Tour Divide. I thrashed it for 22 days along the CDT-ish and placed in on very unforgivable terrain. I had 3 holes in it by the end but each were patched with the little black self adhesive dots use to patch inner tubes. This was a bike race so I had a lot to spare. It’s still going strong with no leaks.

I purchased this pad and have been having trouble with losing air. Going to try it out one more time keeping in mind your comments regarding the black inner layer. Hopefully that solves the problem!

I have heard some Neo Air’s measure less than the actual 20 inches in width.

Just found your website and info, and LOVING IT! Hubby and I have done 4-5 day trips before, but gonna tackle 5 wk SHT (in MN) this summer, as a precursor to tackling the AT next year. We’re already well on the road to UL, but looking to reduce a few more oz….AND increase efficiency! I love my Astro Insulated mat – super comfy! But, it takes me about 28 breaths to fill. Makes me dizzy just thinking of doing THAT for 6 months! LOL Both the NeoAir Xlite and this SV are contenders. Thanks!!

nice Review, thanks for that. I have a question in behalf of the durability. Is it possible to do a good repair on the trail? I want to use the Neoair for the PCT. I tested a lot of non inflatable pads but even after 5 nights i didn’t have a good sleep because it was too uncomfortable for me :/.

Now everybody says your neoair WILL get a hole on the pct. Yes – maybe , but if there is a good repair method, who cares?!

Can you share your experience to me.

Thanks

Marcus from Germany

Yup, I can fully understand that. My guess is that Therm-A-Rest is waiting to see how this initial launch goes. If backpackers love it and want more models, I have no doubt they will design different sizes. Also, the main benefit of this valve is that big mattresses can be filled quickly, so it makes sense that they’re starting with the larger sizes. A smaller mattress is still relatively easily to fill through a standard size. All that said, I think you make a good point that Therm-A-Rest will have to address down the line. Thanks!
