Thanks Megan! We did this trip mid-June 2015. I believe the snowpack was pretty light that year if memory serves. We had zero issues with snow. Water sources are a bit spread out up there, so plan accordingly.

I just stumbled across your blog and I totally LOVE it!!! I've been wanting to do the Loowit Trail around Mt. St. Helens for a while now...and I'm hoping to get it done in 2017. When did you do this backpack trip? Month/Date/Year (year for snowpack!). Thanks in advance and you've got a new loyal reader!!

Thanks Alex! I can work on a full guide for this loop over the next couple of weeks. This trip starts at the Ape Canyon Trailhead. Take that to the Loowit Trail to Windy Ridge to Smith Creek to Lava Canyon and back up to the Ape Canyon Trailhead. If you get a good map of the area you should be able to clearly see the route. It's a great trip. Enjoy!
