Where would I find good Topo maps?

I've used dedicated Garmin GPS devices and the Gaia GPS app extensively and Gaia wins handily. It works on iOS and Android devices, it's cheap (compared to a GPS) if you already own a smartphone and the displays are clear, accurate and intuitive. By setting the phone in "airplane mode" and relying on the built-in GPS phone chip, I've had 5 days use draining only 40% of the (iPhone 6) battery. Of course, this doesn't in any way replace a good compass and a detailed topo map: it's simply a supplement.

PS: I have no affiliation whatsoever with Gaia or any other commercial/corporate entity. This is simply my own opinion

Truth be told, I need to do more research on backpacking apps. That said, it's never a good idea to solely rely on any electronic navigation device with a battery. So I always bring a map and compass anyways.
